Contributing Agencies

Since 1974, the Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District (SRCSD) has worked hand-in-hand with other local agencies to collect and treat wastewater for the urbanized parts of Sacramento County, an area covering more than 250 square miles.  In 2007 we extended our service area to include West Sacramento in Yolo County.

Click on map for expanded view of SRCSD service areaIn simplified terms, SRCSD's "contributing" agencies - Sacramento Area Sewer District (SASD) and the cities of Sacramento, Folsom and West Sacramento - collect wastewater, while SRCSD itself conveys (transports) and treats wastewater. Read more about your local and regional sewer districts in this brochure (929K pdf*).

The contributing agencies channel wastewater to SRCSD's interceptor system - more than 90 miles of sewer pipe, some of it large enough to drive a car through. On an average day, our interceptors transport 165 million gallons of wastewater to the Regional Treatment Plant in Elk Grove, California.

In addition, SRCSD provides treatment services for a small number of residential customers in Roseville and south Placer County.
