Residential Customers
SRCSD provides wastewater services for more than 416,000 homes and businesses in the Sacramento Region. Wastewater travels through 120 miles of interceptors -- large pipes, some big enough to drive a car through -- to the Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant in Elk Grove, where approximately 165 million gallons of wastewater are treated each day and safely disposed of in the Sacramento River.
Commercial Customers
SRCSD serves thousands of private enterprises of all descriptions throughout the region. Our experts work closely with businesses such as dry cleaners, photo development labs and radiator repair shops, helping them to understand local sewer use regulations and to prevent pollutants from entering the sewer system.
Industrial Customers
SRCSD also serves approximately 80 industrial customers. An industrial sewer customer can be defined in any of several ways, including any business:
- That discharges more than 25,000 gallons per day of wastewater to the sewer
- That is subject to certain U.S. Environmental Agency regulations (examples include metal finishers or electroplaters).
To ensure compliance with environmental regulations, SRCSD's Wastewater Source Control Section issues discharge permits to all industrial users.
