Major Conveyance System Odor Events
Description
An odor event occurs when odors released from the sewer pipes and pump stations owned by SRCSD are easily recognized by the average person.
Target
A numerical target has not been set at this time. SRCSD is collecting data and will establish a target in the future.
Purpose
This service level reflects the effectiveness of our odor control equipment and practices in the major conveyance system (pipelines).
Critical Impacts
Odor events can be caused by the failure of odor control equipment, failure to provide adequate odor control chemicals and failure to keep facilities clean or covered for prolonged periods. The potential for odor events is increased when flow in the pipelines is low and temperatures are high.
2010 Performance
Between July and September, there were 11 events centered around one area. These events had the same common cause - failure of the foul air supply fan responsible for conveying the headspace odors of the interceptor system to the treatment plant. This issue has been resolved.
