Overview

Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District (SRCSD) is improving the sewer system in your area. Construction of Upper Northwest Interceptor (UNWI) 3 & 4 has begun.

The 3.55 miles of construction, which runs along Elkhorn Boulevard (from Bridgecross Drive to Cherry Lane), is a critical link in Sacramento's regional wastewater system. The project will ensure reliable sewer service for northern Sacramento County. The existing wastewater conveyance system is nearing capacity and could be at risk of overflow in severe wet-weather conditions. The improvements will help SRCSD better serve current and future needs of those living and doing business in the project area.

What to Expect During Construction

Typical construction hours for UNWI 3 & 4 are between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday. However, tunneling operations can be performed 24-hours-per-day, 7-days-per-week. Certain exceptions may apply.

Construction will be completed in phases, impacting only certain areas along the alignment at a time. In advance of any work, signs will be placed in these areas to notify the public.

Throughout project construction, the project team will do everything possible to minimize impacts to the community. As with most major construction projects, certain impacts may be unavoidable, such as:

  • Increased levels of noise and dust
  • Temporary traffic delays and lane closures
  • Temporary limited driveway access

The project team will communicate construction details ahead of any anticipated impacts and will work with the affected communities to minimize these impacts.

When necessary, construction crews will leave door hangers at residences and businesses at least 72 hours prior to any construction activities that may lead to any direct impacts to specific homes or businesses. Please call the toll-free hotline (866) 479-0600 to report excessive dust and other impacts. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.
