Upper Northwest Interceptor Section 9 (UNWI 9) and Associated Northeast Area (NEA) Relief Projects - Complete
The sewer projects are a joint effort between SRCSD and Sacramento Area Sewer District. SRCSD, the district responsible for providing wastewater conveyance, treatment, and disposal owns and operates the completed UNWI 9 project. Sacramento Area Sewer District is the district responsible for the operation and maintenance of the smaller pipes (Northeast Area Relief Project 1 & 2 work) and pumping stations.
Together, the two Districts maintain and operate sanitary sewers in the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County, including the cities of Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Rancho Cordova, West Sacramento, and portions of the cities of Folsom and Sacramento.
UNWI 9 & NEA Facts:
- UNWI 9 is complete - a new interceptor pipeline now runs along Auburn Boulevard and Old Auburn Road, from approximately Van Maren Lane east to Fair Oaks Boulevard.
- NEA 1 is under construction - construction crews are currently working on a trunk sewer pipeline along Oak Avenue between Fair Oaks Boulevard and Hazel Avenue, and a section of pipeline along Fair Oaks Boulevard between Oak Avenue and Old Auburn Road.
- NEA 2 is complete - a new section of pipeline now runs along Old Auburn Road between Fair Oaks Boulevard and Robert Creek Court.
The new sewer improvements are needed to reduce the risk of potential sanitary sewer overflows during severe wet weather events, and meet existing and future demands on the local sewer system by providing relief capacity. The completed project will meet present and future capacity requirements and avoid possible sewer backups.
Monthly customer bills have not been increased to fund these projects. Instead, fees collected from developers have provided the funds for these projects.
