Upper Northwest Interceptor Section 9 (UNWI 9) and Associated Northeast Area (NEA) Relief Projects

Overview

Performing maintenance on the drill headOver the past year, Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District (SRCSD) and Sacramento Area Sewer District, formerly CSD-1, have been working on the construction phase of the Upper Northwest Interceptor Section 9 (UNWI 9) and Associated Northeast Area (NEA) Relief Projects. The UNWI 9 and NEA projects are part of the larger Upper Northwest Interceptor Project. The project is broken into nine sections for easier design and construction and is necessary because the current wastewater conveyance system is nearing capacity.

This week, November 17 through 22, construction crews will be completing the final restoration activities on the UNWI 9 and NEA 2 portions of the project. The work will take place along Auburn Boulevard and Old Auburn Road in Citrus Heights. Crews will connect the UNWI 9 and NEA 2 sewer pipelines to the existing sewer system, making the line fully functioning.

The work is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and should end by 9 a.m. The work can only take place during the late hours when sewer flows are lowest. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane and controls will be installed, so please expect decreased speeds and delays.

The night work and traffic controls are on:

  • Friday, November 21 - near Cripple Creek

Several pieces of equipment will be operating during the night work. Construction equipment has been placed as far away from residences as possible to minimize noise and impacts.

For 24-hour information, please call our project hotline - 1-866-479-0600.

Construction crews will continue to work on the NEA 1 segment of the work throughout the coming year. Construction is expected to be complete at the end of 2009.

The complete UNWI line will run west along Old Auburn Road, Auburn Boulevard and Greenback Lane, then along Elkhorn Boulevard in North Highlands, through Rio Linda, and finally southbound, parallel to Natomas Boulevard/Truxel Road, where it will tie into the New Natomas Pump Station and the Lower Northwest Interceptor. For more information about each section, please visit the specific SRCSD project Web pages.
