SRCSD Service Levels

Major Conveyance (Sewer) System Odor Events:

An odor event occurs when there is a release of odors from the sewer pipes and pump stations owned by the SRCSD that is easily recognized by the average person.

Target

A numeric target has not been set at this time. SRCSD will continue to collect data in coming years and establish a target in the future.

Assessment: SRCSD continues to do a good job of controlling odors in the conveyance system. In 2007 open or poorly sealed maintenance holes were the cause of 3 of the 4 odor events. These were easily corrected.

Purpose

This service level reflects the effectiveness of odor control equipment and practices in the major conveyance system.

Critical Activities

Odor events can be caused by failure of odor control equipment, failure to provide adequate odor control chemicals such as bioxide or chlorine, and failure to keep facilities clean or covered for prolonged periods. The potential for odor events is increased when flow in the pipelines is low and temperatures are high.
