SRCSD Service Levels

Water Quality Violations:

Violations occur when the quality of water discharged from the treatment plant to the Sacramento River does not meet regulatory requirements.

Target

Maximum of 5 Water Quality Violations per year. Five Water Quality Violations corresponds with the requirements for the Silver Award issued by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies.

Assessment: SRCSD did better than its target in 7 of the last 10 years. 2007 was a good year with only 3 violations. Actual inpacts to the environment from these violations are estimated to be very minor.

Purpose

This service level is important because it provides an indication of wastewater treatment impacts to the Sacramento River and reflects the wastewater treatment plant's overall performance including capacity, operation, and maintenance practices.

Critical Activities

Violations can be caused by mechanical failures, operator failures, natural disasters or unrealistic regulations. Therefore maintenance, operator training and contingency planning, as well as permitting advocacy, can affect this service level.
