Upgrading Older Systems
Helping Older Sewers Make the Grade
Many sewer pipes throughout Sacramento County's unincorporated area were constructed in the 1950s and earlier. Although these sewers are still functioning effectively, a planned County-wide sewer rehabilitation program will keep this critical system up to date. Sacramento Area Sewer District (SASD), a contributing agency to the Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District (SRCSD), will carry out the rehabilitation work on pipes that carry less than 10 million gallons per day of wastewater (for details, please visit the SASD Sewer Rehabilitation Projects web page).
Monitoring Sewer Pipelines
Today our maintenance workers routinely monitor the condition of these older pipelines through a sophisticated television viewing system. Small portable television cameras are used to examine the structural integrity of the pipes, troubleshoot problems and determine the need for repairs, with as little disruption to local neighborhoods as possible.
Minimizing Neighborhood Disruption
When sewer repairs are needed, or when the sewer system is expanded, there can be local inconveniences such as traffic disruption. Our ability to diagnose problems means that quality sewer service continues to be provided to local neighborhoods. When sewer rehabilitation work is scheduled, we keep area residents fully informed about the workplan, its purpose and anticipated duration of the particular project.
